SGT Fred William Hammond, Sr., of Columbus, GA, died Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Canterbury Nursing Home in Phenix City, AL.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
SGT Hammond was born June 16, 1932, in Greenwood, GA son of the late Carl Raymond Hammond and Mattie Elgin Hammond. He was a Sergeant in the United States Army where he served in the Korean War and was a P.O.W. During his military career, he was involved in the K-9 training division. Mr. Hammond loved Western Movies, to entertain and cook, and loved spending time with his family and friends.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death his wife of 34 years, Betty P. Hammond; by 3 sisters, Inez Simpson, Mable Thompson, and Tulan H. Ramage.
Survivors include his daughters, Tulan H. Hall (Gary) of Columbus, GA and Terry H. Jackson (Bobby) of Powder Springs, GA; son, Fred W. Hammond, Jr. of Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Ginger Spencer (Jeff), Lyle Klasky (Chelsey), Gary Madison Hall, Matthew P. Hall, Robert Fraser, Michelle Fraser, Heather Hammond, Summer Hammond; great- grandchildren, Abigail Spencer, Trey and Reed Spencer, and Cooper Klasky.
