Sgm (Retired) Bobby Hugh Wright

SGM (Retired) Bobby Hugh Wright, 85, of Columbus, Georgia passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.

Memorial service will be held 10:00 AM Friday, May 19, 2023 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Internment will be held 12:00 PM Friday, May 19, 2023 at Ft Benning Main Post Cemetery.

Bobby was born on November 20, 1937, in Alamo, Georgia. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956 having served with distinction for 30 years. His years of service included the Berlin Crisis of 1961 and 2 tours during the Vietnam Conflict, 1966 and 1969. His awards include the Combat Infantryman’s Badge (CIB), the Soldiers Medal, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Gold Recruiting Badge with 1 sapphire star, Occupation Medal Berlin Germany, Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 bronze stars and Order of Saint Maurice. His foreign awards include the Vietnamese Medal of Honor 2nd class, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry and Vietnam Staff Service Honor Medal 2nd class. He was a lifetime member of the Non Commissioned Officers Association and the VFW.

Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Betty Jean Adams.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Monika Helga Wright of Berlin, Germany, daughters, Jan (Bill) Bevan, Lisa (Phillip) Henson, son, Randy Wright, granddaughters, Savannah, Shelby, Madison, and Adriana, great granddaughters, Magnolia, and Millicent.
