SGM (Ret.) Charles A. Potts, 86, of Columbus, GA, died October 8, 2016 at Columbus Hospice House.
Graveside Services with Full Military Honors will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 -1:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
SGM (Ret.) Potts was born February 22, 1930 in Jefferson Town, KY, son of the late Charles A. Potts, Sr and Ethel Risinger Potts. He was a retired SGM with the United States Army as a Medical Specialist. SGM (Ret.) served in Korea from September 22, 1950 to September 11, 1951. He also served in Vietnam from February 26, 1966 to February 21, 1967. SGM (Ret.) received numerous awards including Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Korean Service Medal and the Bronze Star Medal. After his military service he worked at the Medical Center later retiring as the Director of Respiratory Therapy Services. He also served as an advisory committee member for the respiratory therapy program at Columbus College.
Mr. Potts focus was his family and friends. Being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather he encouraged his family to be productive and happy. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and walking.
Other than his parents, Mr. Potts was preceded in death by a sister Margie Daugherty; brothers, Forrest Potts and Norman Potts.
Mr. Potts is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kikue Marmutsa Potts of Columbus, GA; one daughter, Theresa Boyd (David) of Forston, GA; sister, Sheila Allison (John) of Dalton, GA, Iris Maddox of Louisville, KY and Joyce Nalley of Louisville, KY; one grandchild, Charles "Lee" Boyd.
