SGM (Ret) Massey Lee Chestnut, Jr., 81, of Columbus, GA, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at his residence.
Graveside Services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, October 24, 2014 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
SGM Chestnut was born May 2, 1933 in Bainbridge, GA, son of the late Massey Lee Chestnut, Sr. and Bessie Moye Chestnut. He retired as a Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. He received several awards and medals including the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star Medal w/1olc. He also retired from the Civil Service as a manager of the Drill Sergeants

Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Charlotte Chestnut of Columbus, GA; sons, David Allen Chestnut (Ann) of Phenix City, AL and Chris Chestnut of Columbus, GA; granddaughter, Sara Heath (Alex) of Bronwood, GA; sister, Leona "Jane" Lacy of Columbus, GA; former daughter-in-law, Denese Wallace of Preston, GA; family friend, Rhonda Boutwell of Smiths Station, AL; nephews, Michael and Richard Lacy; and other loving extended family in Maryland.
