SFC (RET) James Lewis Smith, 86, of Columbus, GA died Tuesday, October 24, 2022 at his residence. Graveside Services with full Military Honors will be held 11:00 AM Friday, October 28, 2022 at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, 553 AL-165, Fort Mitchell National Cemetery 36856, with Reverend Ken Dawson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, October 27, 2022 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory.
James was born March 30, 1936 in Ft. Benning, GA to the late Henry Smith and Gladys Chalkley House.
Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, James Smith, Jr.; and his brother, Clarence Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Smith of Columbus, GA; daughter, Michele Garver (Tim) of Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Josh Garver of Phenix City, AL, Wyatt Garver (Taylor) of Jacksonville, NC; great grandchildren, Anniston Garver, Emma Battley; sister, Dollie Kent of Waxahachie, TX, Mary John Stephens of Brooklyn, GA; numerous nieces and nephews.
