SFC (RET) Benjamin Gallagher Brooks, known affectionately as Ben or “Benny B” to his friends and family, left this world on May 20, 2024, at the age of 42. Born in Orlando, FL, on June 15, 1981, Ben's unwavering spirit and joyful presence were a blessing to all who knew him. His final days were spent in Fortson, GA, where he had made his home.

A memorial service will be held 11:00AM, Thursday, May 30, 2024 at the Fort Moore Main Post Cemetery, 6551 Legacy Blvd, Fort Moore, GA 31905. Prior to the Memorial Service, a procession will be held at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus 31907; arrival time 10:00 am and departure time 10:30 am.

A proud graduate of Holly High School's class of 1999 in Holly, Michigan, Ben's sense of duty and patriotism led him to enlist in the U.S. Army shortly after his high school graduation. His remarkable military career spanned two decades, marked by honor and distinction. Ben's dedication to his country was evident in his multiple deployments in support of the Global War on Terror, including Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. His exceptional service was recognized with numerous awards, among them the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), the Army Commendation Medal (7th Award), the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Valorous Unit Award, and the Korea Defense Service Medal, just to name a few.

Beyond his military achievements, Ben was a man of diverse passions and interests. His love for music was profound, often found attending concerts, strumming his guitar, and sharing his love for melodies with others. Ben's enthusiasm for sports was equally fervent. An avid golfer, he took to the greens with the same focus and dedication he applied to all areas of his life. His passion extended to the baseball diamond, where he found joy and purpose in coaching Little League baseball, imparting lessons of teamwork and sportsmanship to young athletes.

Michigan football held a special place in Ben's heart, and he was a super fan of the Detroit Lions, embodying the spirit of unwavering loyalty and hope. Yet, above all else, Ben cherished the moments he spent with his wife and children. The love he had for his family was the cornerstone of his life, and his devotion to his kids was unparalleled.

Those who knew Ben would describe him as a loving, courageous, and selfless man. His ability to face challenges with grace, to extend kindness to others, and to put the needs of his fellow soldiers and loved ones above his own are the hallmarks of his character. Ben's legacy is one of strength, honor, and compassion, qualities that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by his life.

He is survived by his loving wife Lynda Brooks; daughters Raylee Brooks, Cassidy Brooks; Son Benjamin Brooks Jr; parents Bridget and Brian Moore, brothers Brendan and Ed Moore.
