Sfc Ernest L. (Ret.) Shaw

SFC (Ret.) Ernest L. "Ernie" Shaw, 73, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital, Columbus, GA.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held 1:00 P.M., Monday, April 29, 2013 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA with Pastor Judy Hay officiating. A private interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
Ernie was born February 20, 1940 in Sutton, West Virginia son of the late Charles and Juanita Snider Shaw. He was a 22-year veteran of the U. S. Army with overseas service in Germany, Vietnam and Korea. He loved to cook and found great joy in gardening, sharing his tomatoes and cucumbers with friends and neighbors.
Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Monty Shaw and James Shaw.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Erika Shaw; his daughter, Christine Murphey and her husband Dean of Smiths Station, AL; sister, Betty Lou Clifton and brother, Roger Shaw, both of Sutton, WV.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Valley Rescue Mission, 2903 2nd Ave., Columbus, GA 31904.
