SFC (Ret.) Arthur Rivers, 66, of Columbus, GA died Sunday, December 18, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Smith McNeal Funeral Home, 4129 Hwy 17 N., Awendaw, SC. Interment will follow in Bethel AME Church Cemetery, 404 Society Road, McClellanville, SC. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA and Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Smith McNeal Funeral Home in Awendaw, SC.
Mr. Rivers was born August 24, 1945 in McClellanville, SC son of the late Catherine Rivers Maxwell. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 24 years as a SFC having served in Desert Storm. He had worked at W.C. Bradley and was currently working at PCI as a machine operator.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Malorie Maxwell and James Maxwell and sister, Thomasena Maxwell Brown.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Julie Rivers of Columbus, GA; daughter, Catherine Rivers of Columbus, GA; brother, David Maxwell (Lula) of Ft. Myers, FL; brother-in-law, Thomas Brown of McClellanville, SC; sister-in-law, Gloria Maxwell of New York, NY and several nieces and nephews.
He was a friends to all and will be missed.
