SFC (Ret.) Rafael M. Malave, 83, of Columbus, GA passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Warm Springs Nursing Home in Warm Springs, GA.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Evergreen Memory Gardens with Reverend Michael Heath officiating according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
SFC (Ret.) was born October 25, 1932 in Castañer, Puerto Rico and entered the U.S. Army in 1953 in Ft. Riley, KS. He served a tour in Vietnam and was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone, Germany, and various military bases. Upon his Army retirement, he was employed by the Army, Air Force Exchange in the HVAC Department at Ft. Benning, GA.
He was preceded in death by his adoptive father, Santiago Soto and mother, Georginia Medina and brother, Onofre Malave.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Maria M. Malave, daughters, Nivea I. Malave of St. Petersburg, FL, Aracelis Williams (Lawrence) of Fortson, GA and Lina Malave of Manchester, GA, grandsons, Joseph Mangioni (Jamie) of Tallahassee, FL, and H. Taylor Williams of Fortson, GA, sister, Iris Soto, brothers, Israel Soto and Salvador Soto of Puerto Rico.
The family would like to heartfully thank the nursing staffs of the Warm Springs Nursing Home and Phenix City Health Care for their care. Much appreciation is expressed to Hospice of Columbus, GA for their support.
