SFC (Ret.) James G. Irwin, 77, Columbus, GA, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM, Friday, February 28, 2014 at Harvest Pointe Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Gary Tankersley and Reverend Mark Tipton officiating. An interment with full military honors will be held in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
SFC Irwin was born August 16, 1936 in Lewisburg, TN, son of the late Joe V. Irwin and Mary Darnell Irwin. SFC Irwin was a US Army Vietnam Veteran retiring with 25 years of service. After retiring from the United States Army he worked for the Columbus Consolidated Government. He was a member of Harvest Pointe Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Sanders Irwin of Columbus, GA; daughter, Gail Harrelson Miles (Gerald) of Pensacola, FL; sister, Catherine Smith (Glen) of Millbrook, AL; brothers, Leonard Irwin of Shelbyville, TN and Charles Irwin (Melba) of Lewisburg, TN; granddaughter, Tiffany Miles Firestone (Robert) of Chesapeake, VA; grandson, Gerald D. Miles (Brandy) of Pensacola, FL; and four great-grandchildren, Grayden Miles of Pensacola, FL, Madeline Firestone, Miles Firestone, and William Firestone all of Chesapeake, VA.
The family would like to thank Columbus Hospice, Mickey Dutton, Merrill Toome, and Devin Mason.
