SFC (Ret.) Wyley Mell Brown, Sr., 89 of Columbus died Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Azalea Trace Nursing Home.
Funeral services with full Military Honors will be held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Buckhiester officiating. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA.
SFC (Ret.) Brown was born December 3, 1923 in Comer, Georgia son of the late James Griff Brown and Jennobie Cooper Brown. He retired after 20 years as a SFC in the U. S. Army having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He later retired from the U. S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. He was a member of Wesley Heights United Methodist Church. He enjoyed listening to music, Braves Baseball and the Georgia Bulldogs. His favorite pastime was playing cards with his family.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years Melba H. Brown of Columbus, GA; sons, Michael Brown (Susan) of Lake City, FL, Wyley Brown, Jr. (Patti) and Kenny Brown (Ashley) all of Fortson, GA; daughter, Evelyn Hicks of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Christi Acheson, Lyndi Lee, Wyley Brown, III, Brant Brown, Cason Brown, Skyler Brown, Jean Frost, Shane Starling, Carey McKenney, Meyer Waddell, Addie Waddell and Macoy Waddell; great grandchildren, Kiley, Laken, Hunter, Mason, Gavin, Makenna, Amanda and Courtney; several nieces and nephews and other family members.
