Sara Byrd Corbett

Sara Byrd Corbett passed away on December 22, 2014 at the age of 87.
The family will receive friends Monday, December 29 at 9:30 a.m. at McMullen Funeral Home in Columbus followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM in the McMullen Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Private interment will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.
She was born in Phenix City, Alabama on February 23, 1927. She followed her beloved husband Bill in death by almost a month to the day. She graduated from Central High School. She married William J. Corbett in 1946, and they were happily married for 68 years. She enjoyed Gospel music and Christian worship. During her lifetime, she loved and cared for many dogs. She worked for many years as a proof reader at the Ledger Enquirer. She was the church secretary at Ladonia Baptist Church in Phenix City for years. She was a medical receptionist at Martin Army Hospital for several years and retired from that job. She was a longtime member of Ladonia Baptist Church, and in recent years she was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Smiths Station.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jasper Corbett, father E.N. Byrd, Sr., mother Odessa Howard Byrd, brother Edgar N. Byrd, Jr., sister Edna Edge, sister-in-law Myrtle Byrd, and niece Lynda Sturdivant.
She is survived by daughter Cathy and husband Ken Clark, son Bill and wife Monica Corbett, grandchildren Brock Corbett and Casey and husband Bob Luschen, and great grandchildren Emma Grace and Amelia Luschen.
