Sandy (Sadie) Merritt Mueller, age 84, died peacefully in her sleep from heart failure, a common complication of pulmonary fibrosis, on August 10, 2018 in Columbus, GA.
Born on December 27, 1933, in Sullivan, MO, she lived in Missouri through her twenties. She moved frequently, before finally settling in Falls Church, VA, where she lived for over 40 years. She is survived by her three children, Mark (Connie Sandusky), Colette Greer Daniel (James), Wendy Mueller Serrino (Frank), her two sisters, Mary Lou Wigger (the late Dean) and Betty Pondrom (Wayne), six grandchildren, Jacob Greer (Jessica), Natalie Serrino (Tim Peacock), John Parker Greer (Chelsea), Jessie Serrino, Jack Serrino, and Tommy Serrino, and two great-grandchildren, Oakleigh and Watson Greer. Sandy spent her career as an office manager and administrative assistant for several governmental consulting companies in Washington D.C.
She was also a long-time member of the Elks Fraternal order, which promotes the values of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity, and Sandy both lived and shared those values with her family. She will be forever remembered as the most wonderfully loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to read, to be current on politics and to frequent piano bars.
She was able to find love and laughter when many others couldn't. Her ability to create community, her leadership skills, sense of humor, and kindness will be deeply missed by all. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Arlington-Fairfax Elks Lodge 2188, 8421 Arlington Blvd, Fairfax, VI.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project (www.WoundedWarriorProject.org) or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (www,PulmonaryFibrosis.org).
