Sandra Kay Wade, 68, of Smith Station, AL passed away peacefully on June 29, 2021 at Emory University Hospital in the presence of her family.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Sunday, July 11, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Phenix City Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 4016 US Highway 80, Phenix City, AL 36870. Officiating Minister, Pastor Dwyane Campbell. The family will begin receiving visitors prior to the service at 1:00 pm as well as following the service at the church.
Sandra Kay was born September 23, 1952 in Macon County, GA daughter of the late Roy E. Wallis and Gertrude (Trudy) Sanders Wallis of Montezuma, GA. She graduated from Macon County High School in 1970 and South Georgia Vocational School in 1971. She received her Medical Coding Certification from Columbus Tech in 2011. During her career she served in various Administrative Assistant roles at Trinity Episcopal Church, The Bradley Center of St. Francis, Smiths Station Newspaper, Regional Rehabilitation Hospital of Phenix City and the Law Firm of Hall, Booth, Smith. She was also a Medical Transcriptionist for several local doctors. Her typing and spelling skills were superb. Over the course of her career she made many friends that she would continue to keep in contact with throughout her life.
She was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Whether near or far she always made sure to it that her children and grands would receive a birthday gift and card. Her family was her greatest joy. In her spare time she was an avid gardener and bird watcher. She was able to identify most of the flowers and birds of the local area, her favorite were amaryllis and woodpeckers.
She was a longtime devoted member of Phenix City Seventh-Day Adventist Church, because of COVID restrictions and her own illness she joined the last year’s services by phone.
Other than her father she was proceeded in death by a daughter, Marcie Delaina Plunkett and a brother, Franklin Lamar Lamberth, Sr.
In addition to her mother she was survived by two sons and their wives, Zachary and Barbee Alderson of Columbus, GA, Jared and Jodi Alderson of Murfreesboro, TN; two adult grandchildren, Alyssa (David) Cassady of Lewis Center, Ohio and Austin Robinson stationed at Travis AFB, California; seven younger grandchildren, Elizabeth, Joseph, Adelaide, Isaac, Alexander, Solomon and Oliver; three great-granddaughters, Makenna, Kaelyn and Dakota; a brother, Travis Wallis and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
If you wish to send flowers the family would appreciate potted flowers or seed packets to be planted in a memory garden. You may bring these with you to the church. Flowers may also be delivered to 5540 Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909.
