Sandra Elizabeth Hodnett McGuire, 73, a long-time resident of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 after an extended illness. Mrs. McGuire lived most of her life in Oak Grove Community near Pine Mountain, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Grove Congregational Christian Church, Oak Grove Rd, Pine Mountain, GA. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA.
Mrs. McGuire was born February 6, 1939 in LaGrange, GA daughter of the late James and Norma Hodnett. She was a graduate of LaGrange High School, Class of 1957. Mrs. McGuire was a pioneer in the Victims Advocacy Program having helped start many chapters in Georgia and Alabama to assist victims of violent crimes.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Lynne McGuire and unborn son Hayden Hodnett McGuire; and brother, James Wayne Hodnett.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years F. Howard McGuire of Columbus, GA; sons Peter McGuire, and wife Sandra, of Norcross, GA; Paul McGuire, and wife Susan, of Midland, Georgia; Hamilton McGuire and Malia Hennies of Kennesaw, GA and daughter, Mary Beth Rutledge, and husband Tim, of Anderson, SC. She is also survived by one sister, Lynne Byers, and husband Don, of Hiram, Georgia and one brother, Robert Hodnett, and wife Joann, of Mt. Vernon, TX. She is also survived by grandsons James Christensen and wife Ashley, Tyler Christensen, Spencer McGuire, and granddaughters Becca McGuire, Lauren McGuire and Lindsay McGuire and one great grandson Hayden Grael McGuire, and a number of nieces and nephews. Also surviving are foster children Nancy Dorris and foster grandchildren, John Dorris and Emily Westbrook.
