Sandra Andrews Johnson

Sandra Andrews Johnson 82, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away Saturday October 23, 2021 at Columbus Hospice House. Her eighty-two years were full and happy ones, which is exactly what the many friends she cultivated over the years would say.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 27, 2021 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Dr. Don Wilhite officiating. A private interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Georgia 31907.

Born in the “Boogerville” section of Columbus, Georgia she was a 1956 graduate of Jordan High School. She was an accountant for several businesses before purchasing “Sandy’s Family Restaurant” (formerly  Choppy’s and currently Ruth Ann’s) on Veterans Parkway in downtown Columbus. She credits her very best friend, Winnie Bottoms who worked for Mr. Pugh before the restaurant purchase, for teaching her the operation of the restaurant business “from the ground up” for the next 18 years. Mrs. Johnson will be missed by her many faithful employees and was so loved by the thousands of customers who “swore by her delicious fried chicken”.

She met her husband, Richard, of Panama City Beach in 2006 and shortly afterward transferred from her position as Operations Manager with Colonial Bank to the newly opened Panama City Beach branch. The couple had a lovely seaside wedding on one of the secluded beaches in Maui, Hawaii in 2010. A few years later they returned to Phenix City where they resided at the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Andrews and father Lester Andrews, nephew Rusty Williams and niece Nancy Williams Watson all of Columbus, Georgia.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her loving husband, Richard, of Phenix City, AL, her sisters, Betty Williams of Columbus, Becky Askew (David) of Midland, GA, Brother, Lester Andrews (Kathy) of Upatoi,, GA, brother-in-law, Jerry Johnson (Terri) of Hiram. GA, Sister-in-law, Marion Vinson of Cumming, GA, and her uncle, Harold Morris of Columbus, GA.  Nephews: Andy Askew (Erin), Timothy Andrews (Hailey), Matthew Andrews, Michael Andrews and nieces: Wendy Bufford, Emily Russell (Scott) and Amy Bryan (Hunter), as well as a host of grand-nephews and nieces.
