Mr. Samuel Thorne Henson, 78, of Columbus, Georgia and former resident of Boca Raton, Florida died Friday, August 7, 2015 after a short illness.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Parkhill Cemetery 4161 Macon Rd. Columbus, GA 31907.
He was born September 21, 1937 in Greenville, South Carolina to the late Samuel Alton and Opal Childs Henson. He was an entrepreneur, a businessman, and an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and was a member of the Sons of the Revolution.
Other than his parents, Mr. Henson is preceded in death by a brother Lt. Col. Jack A. Henson and son Todd Harper of Denver, Colorado.
He is survived by his wife Eleanor Sue Henson, a sister, Dianne Gillis (Neil) of Ellerslie, GA, sons, Samuel Thorne Harper (Katherine) of Texas and Gregory Henson (Barbara) of Merritt Island, FL, daughter, Jennifer Henson Averill of Boca Raton, FL, step-daughter, Kathy Mathis (Dale), three granddaughters, one grandson, one step-grandson and several nieces and nephews.
