Sally Hayes Walker

Sally Hayes Walker, 89, of Columbus, GA died Monday, May 13, 2024 at Spring Harbor.

A private interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Sally was born on Christmas day to the late Karl Decker Hayes, Sr. and Ann Mell Longshore, she grew up with her older brother K.D. in West Monroe, LA. After a whirlwind college romance, Sally married Harry January 11, 1957 and they went on to have three children; and often relocated frequently including many years in France and Germany. A longtime resident of Columbus, GA; Sally loved to volunteer and help in the community. She spent time as an English teacher as well as an active military spouse. Eventually she retired and traveled with her husband in his off time; always making sure to bring back souvenirs for her many grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Harry D. Walker, her brother, and both parents.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Walker of Fayetville, NC, Phyllis Walker Lee of Cataula, GA, son, Greg Walker of Jupiter, FL. She is also survived by grandchildren: Kyle Walker Bland of Houston, TX, Delaney Webb-Walker of Columbus, GA, Logan Lee of Cataula, GA, Gage Walker Lee of Savannah, GA, Mason Hayes Walker of Jupiter, FL, Grady Lee of Miami, FL, Milo Walker of Jupiter, FL, Audrey Grace Walker of Jupiter, FL; as well as two great-grandchildren, Syvera and Declan Webb-Walker of Columbus, GA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
