Sally M. Janke, 86, of Columbus, Georgia passed away at her residence on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will have a private service according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Georgia 31907.

Sally was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 18, 1934. Her family moved to the Detroit area when she was two years old, and she was raised in Dearborn, Michigan. Sally attended Dearborn High School, where she met her future husband, and graduated with a degree in education from Michigan State University in 1956.  In 1957 she traveled to France, where she married Ken Janke, who was stationed in a town outside of Paris while serving in the U.S. Army. Following Ken’s time in the service, they returned to Michigan to start a family.  Sally taught school, both on a full-time and substitute basis, and translated books into braille. Sally also spent countless hours as a volunteer, at organizations including the AAUW, St. Jude, and the National Association of Investors. Prior to moving to Columbus, Georgia in 2013, she was a long-time resident of Bloomfield Township, Michigan. Sally was a member of both the Daughters of the American Revolution and Daughters of the Confederacy.

Sally was preceded in death by Ken, her husband of 54 years; her parents Thomas and Mayme Roach; her brothers Tom and John Roach; and her sister Marilyn Marcel.

Sally is survived by her brother Mike Roach (Jackie) of Bonita Springs, Florida; her sister Marti Roach (Dennis Romano) of Moraga, California; and her three children, Ken Janke Jr. (Kim) of Columbus, Georgia; Laura Janke of Grass Valley, California; and Julie Peacock (Charlie) of Northbrook, Illinois.  She is also survived by five grandchildren: Paige Wilgus (Trev); Emma Janke; Grant Janke; Lilly Peacock and Charlie Peacock VI. The family will be forever grateful for the 12 years of loving care that Patti Rossi provided Sally.
