Sadie Mae Williams Hicks entered this world on September 12, 1922 in Marion, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Julius Nathaniel Williams and Lucy Ellerbe Williams. She departed this life peacefully on December 15, 2016 at home.
She was united in marriage to Henry A. Hicks on September 26, 1946. They had been married for sixty-three years at the time of her husband's death on May 28, 2009. God truly blessed them with seven wonderful children. She was preceded in death by her husband SGM (Ret.) Henry A. Hicks, one of her daughters, Sandra M. (Hicks) Tatum.
Sister Hicks obeyed the Gospel of Christ on November 5, 1989, where she was baptized into Christ. She was a faithful servant of God and His Church; she worshiped at Crawford Church of Christ for many years and at the time of her death she was a member of Cusseta Road Church of Christ.
She was a devoted, loving and proud wife, wonderful mother, homemaker and friend. She was always willing to give advice, lend a helping hand and shared her love to all she met.
She loved to work in the yard with her husband as she produced beautiful flowers and plants. She was also a super cook and baker, always having something delicious baking in the oven.
She was a professional homemaker, wife and mother, for most of her life, never working outside of the home. A professional homemaker, wife and mother encompass being a spiritual leader, a doctor, a nurse, judge, lawyer, counselor/coach/mentor, teacher, peace officer, private chef, transportation coordinator, domestic superintendent of housekeeping, seamstress and childcare provider just to name a few of the professional homemaker, wife and mother responsibilities. With that being said; she along with many others were over worked and under paid. However, her CEO/CFO Henry A. Hicks ensured that she had all the resources she required to care for and facilitate their household and home in a professional and proficient manner. They together ensured that their family did not go without.
Although her aspiration as a young lady was to be an entertainer, she made a splendid homemaker, wife and mother.
Surviving her departure with cherished memories are: her sons, SH-1 (Ret.) Albert T. (Ruby) Hicks of Columbus, Georgia, Harry (Maxine) Hicks of College Park, Georgia, 1SG (Ret.) Larry X. (Vanessa) Hicks, of Columbus, Georgia, her daughters; Shelia J. (Charles) Walker, of Brown Mills, New Jersey, SFC (Ret.) Sharon M. (Willie) Johnson, of Killen, Texas, Stella M.
