Ruth Iris McCullough Wright, 102, of Columbus, Georgia was called home to God on December 12th at Spring Harbor where she had been a resident for six years.

Memorial services will be held at 2PM Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church, 2100 Hilton Avenue in Columbus with a private interment in McAdam, New Brunswick, Canada.

Ms. Wright was born and raised in McAdam, New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of the late Harry Albert McCullough and Mary Irene Craig McCullough. McAdam was a bustling Canadian Pacific Railroad town. In her formative years, she learned to play the piano playing at Sunday church services and in the local silent movie theatre. She recalls giving coffee and sandwiches to the soldiers on the train as they passed through McAdam on their way to the "Great War". She studied and became a nurse only to give it up because she couldn't stand to see patients suffering. However, always good with numbers and not wanting to let her go, South County Hospital in Wakefield, Rhode Island employed her in the Business Office where she felt right at home. At the time, her sister was dating Norman Wright and they introduced Ruth to Stuart Wright leading to the McCullough sisters marrying the Wright brothers. In the mid 30's, Stuart and Ruth moved to Coral Gables Florida. In 1941, Stuart Gardner Wright Jr. came into the world bringing her great joy. In the late forty's, Ruth embarked on a second career starting as a salesclerk and progressing to Buyer and finally Store Manager at Daniel's, a ladies & children's specialty store where she worked for many years. Her final employment was as the secretary to the General Director at the YMCA of Greater Miami. She retired in the early 80's to provide primary care support for her mother and later her sister. After that episode of her life concluded, she traveled and enjoyed visiting with her four great grandchildren in California. In 1996 she moved to Columbus to live with her son and daughter-in-law where she was a member of the Green Island Garden Club, the Newcomers Club of Columbus, and the oldest member of Saint Thomas Episcopal Church.

Ruth was a wonderful, loving, kind and caring woman who made it her life's work to help with the needs of others and always saw the good in every person. She was most happy to be with children and was the "must-have" baby sitter for many. She loved gardening, baking cookies and the best ever apple pie's, volunteering for the Chattahoochee Valley Episcopal Ministry, and attending the Saint's & Sinner's luncheons at Saint Thomas. Her beautiful spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her son; Stuart Gardner Wright, Jr. (Judith Anna) of Columbus, GA, one grandchild; Stuart Gardner Wright III (Lisa Anne) of Frisco, TX, and four great-grandchildren; Devon Stuart Gardner Wright, Ryan Killian Wright, Griffin James Allen
