Rufus Donald Burdett

Rufus Donald Burdett, 93, of Fortson, GA died Thursday, January 9, 2025.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 14, 2025 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Jonathan Merritt officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Interment will be held at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery at 1:30 PM following the service.

Rufus was born August 24, 1931 in Columbus, GA son of the late William Lon Burdett and Estelle Mitchell Goggins Burdett. He worked as a rural mail carrier in Fortson, GA for 28 years. He enjoyed studying the Bible, reading, collecting stamps, composting and gardening. He was a licensed Baptist minister and served at several churches in the area.

Other than his parents, Rufus was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Robbie Lou Burleson Burdett; siblings, Edward Calvin Burdett, James Dewey Burdett, Sarah Lou Burdett Alexander; grandsons, James Spencer Burdett and David Paul Burdett.

Survivors include his children, Deborah E. Williams (Ron), William D. Burdett (Susan), Diane Land (Vernon), Calvin D. Burdett (Christina), Joel Q. Burdett (Barbara); grandchildren, Brandon Missildine, Mitchell Burdett (Lacie), Jonathan Burdett (Jennifer), Jason Land (Cheryl), Teresa Nowling (Narvie), Adam Burdett (Meghan), Rachel Douglas (Stephen), Macy Kight (Morgan), Clifton Williamson (Kelsie), Wesley Burdett (Michelle), Ashley Reinhart (Blake), Kayce Burdett (Lee), Emily Ann Burdett; great grandchildren, Hana Missildine, Breana Missildine, Kayla Burdett, Colton Land, Kimber Land, Kirsten Nowling, Ansley Nowling, Wyatt Burdett, Oliver Burdett, Riley Burdett, Shiloh Spencer Burdett, Kelby Keairns, Harper Moore, Hilton Kight, Kellen Neesmith, Bentlee Williamson, Sterling Douglas; brother-in-law, Dennis Burleson; sisters-in-law, Robbie Burleson, Jan Wyatt, Martha Pate, Doris Burleson, Judy Burleson, Sheila Burleson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
