Ret. MSG Jesse P. Lanehart, Sr., 74 of Columbus died Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held 10 A.M., Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA with Pastor Chris Davis officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 till 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
MSG Lanehart was born March 28, 1936 in Wilkinson County, MS son of the late Paul J. Lanehart and Jessie McKlemurry Lanehart. He has been a resident of Columbus since 1971. He had retired from the U.S. Army after 21 year's service as a Master Sargent. He received the Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device. He loved to go fishing and spend time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in by his son Richard Dean Lanehart.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years Gisela Lanehart of Columbus, GA; daughters Stephani Edwards (Bobby) of Waverly Hall, GA, Leona Fox (Jim) of Ellerslie, GA, MaryLou Jones (Larry) Daleville, AL; son, Jesse P. Lanehart, Jr. (Jennifer) of Cataula, GA; granddaughter Lisa Talbot (Daniel); four grandsons, Tyler Fox, Jordan Jones, Jacob Lanehart and Jonah Lanehart; sister Kattie Hutchinson (Fred) of Jackson, LA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
