Rt. Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Warner Franklin "Frankie" Fussell, Jr. 76, of Columbus died Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at his residence.
Funeral services with Fireman and Military Honors will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cindy Garrard officiating. Interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The Columbus Fire Department will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
Chief Fussell was born December 01, 1938 in Columbus, Georgia son of the late Warner Franklin Fussell, Sr. and Addie Wadkins Fussell. He retired after serving 36 years with Columbus Fire and EMS Department. His greatest accomplishment during his career was serving and protecting the citizens of Columbus, Ga. Chief Fussell was honored in the Fire Engineers Magazine with a cover story about a child that he rescued from a burning home. He was also a lifetime member of the NRA.
Survivors include his wife; Patricia H. Fussell of Columbus, Ga., two daughters; Martha Lynne Earley (David) of Columbus, Ga., Pamela Suzanne Mitchell (Michael) of Columbus, Ga., six sons; Timothy Franklin Fussell of Glendale, Az., David Franklin Fussell (Charla) of Columbus, Ga., Rodney Eugene Cotton (Linda) of Columbus, Ga., Chris Cotton (Christa) of Phenix City, Al., John Patrick Macon (Amanda) and Chad Entrekin (Robie) both of Columbus, Ga., one sister and four brothers, 11 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild.
Flowers will be accepted, those so desiring may make contributions to The American Heart Association or The American Cancer Society.
