Roy Newman, 67, of Columbus, GA died Monday, August 22, 2016, at Midtown Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Evangel Temple, 5350 Veterans Parkway, Columbus, GA 31904 with Rev. Paul Thomas and Rev. Bud Rupel officiating. The interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery immediately following the funeral. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA 31907.

Mr. Newman was born October 9, 1948, in Columbus, GA and is the son of the late Shelby and Margaret Phillips Newman. He proudly served in the Vietnam War and later worked and retired from Civil Service as a photographer and videographer. Mr. Newman was also a Bus Driver for the Muscogee County School District from 2014-2016. He was a member of Evangel Temple where he was in the Abundant Life Sunday School class and served as a Deacon. Mr. Newman also helped with children, teenager and prison ministry.

Mr. Newman loved photography, football and gardening. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and he showed the kindness of Jesus to everyone!

Other than his parents, Mr. Newman is preceded in death by his brother, Dan Williams of Winter Haven, FL and his sister, Pauline Williams Jones of Columbus GA.

Mr. Newman is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Jane Miles Newman of Columbus, GA, his son, Shelby Newman (Molli) of Auburn, AL, and his daughter, Lauren Newman Page (Brandon) of Safety Harbor, FL. He is also survived by three sisters, Foy Newman of Columbus, GA, Katie Brock of Ellerslie, GA and Willie Williams of Greenville, SC; three brothers, Howell Williams (Ruth) of Greenville, SC, Edward Newman (Velva) of Columbus, GA and Lonnie Brock of Ellerslie, GA; two grandchildren, Jack Page of Safety Harbor, FL and Ashley Newman of Auburn, AL, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring may make memorial contributions to Missions at Evangel Temple in memory of Mr. Roy Newman.
