Rona R. Phillips, 77, of Auburn, Alabama died Friday, November 27, 2020 at the Green House at Calvary in Columbus, GA.
A private service celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2101 Wildwood Avenue, Columbus, GA 31906 with Reverend Dr. Shane Green officiating according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. In keeping with the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19, face coverings and social distancing will be required during the memorial service.
Rona was born on August 21, 1943 in Memphis, TN, the daughter of the late Harold Clifton Rhine and Rovene Murdock Rhine. She received a degree in social work from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA and later served as the director of the Crisis Center of East Alabama. She owned and managed Rhine Farms, a business that her family founded in Greene County, AR in the late 1800s. Rona was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Auburn, AL, where she served as an Elder and volunteered her time to many church projects. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling overseas with her sister, the late Margery Hoffman of Paragould, Arkansas, and attending live theater and music performances.
Survivors include her son, Michael Scott Phillips and his wife, Hope Elliott Phillips of Columbus, GA, her nephew, Douglas Hoffman of N. Little Rock, AR and several other family members.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Green House at Calvary, 7462 Old Moon Rd, Columbus, GA 31909, a facility that specializes in care for individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease.
