Rodney Johnson, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023, in his hometown of Columbus, GA.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Evangel Church with Rev. Paul Thomas, Rev. Bud Rupel and Rev. Chris Aguilar officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery following the service on Wednesday.

Born on September 13, 1960, Rodney lived a life full of love, laughter, and generosity, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to know him.

Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Carl S. Johnson. He leaves behind a close-knit family, including his loving mother, Gertrude Johnson of Columbus, GA, his brother Terry Johnson and his wife Sharon of Midland, GA, his sister Tammy Hammond and her husband Michael of Ellaville, GA, and his sister Katrina Bennett and her husband Bruce of Cataula, GA. Rodney was a cherished uncle to his nieces and nephews Addison (Mallory) Estes, Brandy (Jeremy) Crosby, Brooke (Jonathan) Mack, Abbey (Jesse) Goldman, and Kasey (Casey) Collier. His joy was multiplied by his fifteen great nieces and nephews Alli Rae, Jonah, Noah, Maddox, Annistyn, Levi, Caleb, Leah, Kolby, Riley, Diem, Devyn, Delilah, Ellie Mae, and Gertie Lynne, who will remember him for his playful spirit and endless kindness.

Rodney dedicated many years of his life to his career as a manager at Family Dollar, where he was known for his hard work and commitment to his team. His professional life was only one facet of his identity; Rodney was also a faithful attendee of Evangel Church in Columbus, GA for over 33 years.

Rodney enjoyed fishing, watching Georgia Bulldog football, porch sittin', Amazon shopping, and spending countless hours with his family, especially his honorary grandchildren.

Rodney was a man defined by his loving nature, his sense of humor, and his generous spirit. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.

In remembering Rodney, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to inspire.
