Roderick Jason Coyle, 64, of Columbus, GA passed away in the presence of his lifetime partner and son on Sunday, June 25, 2023.

Jason leaves behind his lifetime partner of 37 years, Theresa Hutchins; son Alex Coyle (Caroline); mother, Myra Coyle; siblings, Marcus W. Coyle III (Mary), Melinda (née Coyle) Goldman (Dr. Ken Goldman), and Patrick Z. Coyle (Winnie); and many nieces and nephews: Shannon Sandrea and her daughter Sofia, Marcus Patrick "Markie" Coyle and his daughter Haylee, Jason Patrick "JP" Crawford and his daughter Claudia, Hannah Kelly and her children, Keagan and Chloe, Marcus Coyle IV, Phillip Jacob "PJ" Goldman, and Rhydian Coyle and his son Pearson. He is preceded by his father, Col. Marcus Coyle, and infant brother, Roger Coyle.

Jason was born June 15, 1959 to Myra Coyle and the late Col. Marcus Coyle on Fort Rucker in Alabama, where his father was training to be an army aviator. Affectionately known by many names, he answered to Jay, Jaybird, Roddy, Dad, and many more. His proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly his son, Alex, whom he loved and respected unequivocally. A mechanically gifted mind, Jason had the exceptional ability to repair all kinds of machines from cars to precision jet engines. On the weekends, he could be found fishing with his partner Theresa, hunting dove or deer, or watching an Alabama game, preferably with his family. Jason loved his chickens and at one point had nearly 250 in his home built coops, so there was never a shortage of eggs. He could always be counted on for a wild and witty story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and if Jason was coming to a family get-together, you can be sure everyone else was too. His memory will live on in the stories he told and lives he touched, of which there were many.

A private service will be planned for family and close friends at his home in Midland, Georgia later this year. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be contributed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital so that other families may be blessed by their children the way he has been blessed by his.
