Robert “Jerald” Register, 72 of Columbus, GA passed away Tuesday February 25, 2025 at St. Francis Hospital.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 4, 2025 in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 PM, Monday, March 3, 2025 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31097.

Jerald was born January 17, 1953 in Warner Robbins, GA to the late A.T. Register and Malvie Justice Register Williams. He was a dedicated Class 1 Water & Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator & Laboratory Analyst employee with the Columbus Water Works which is an executive department of the Columbus Consolidated Government.

Jerald was born into a military family and traveled with his parents to his fathers’ duty stations I France, Alaska, Ft. McClellan, AL and Ft. Benning.  Living in Columbus for all of his adult life, Jerald enjoyed singing and playing softball for his church.  Jerald was an exceptional personality that was very much in tune with all that he endeavored in life.  Focused is a word that many used to describe his passion for his love of music, Atlanta Falcons Football, softball and Atlanta Braves Baseball.

A 1972 graduate of Hardaway High School, where he lettered in Track & Field, Jerald was admired for his work ethic and determination.  Jerald later graduated from Columbus State University, or Columbus College as it was known at the time, where he was on scholarship for Track & Field.  After his college graduation Jerald earned a teaching certification and taught at Richland academy.

Jerald started his love for music when he began singing in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and later in the Benning Park Baptist Church.  A gifted guitarist, singer and songwriter Jerald has composed 30 songs in the Adult Contemporary and Gospel category.  One of his published and recorded songs charted on the Adult Contemporary Chart in 1984.

Jerald will be remembered by all as a man that lived by the teachings of the Bible and had an unwavering resolve to do what was right and just.  We will all miss him greatly.

Survivors include his brothers: Steve Register (Pam) of Waverly Hall, GA, Tim Register of Columbus, GA and his sister: Janet LaFortune (David) also of Columbus, GA. Nieces and Nephews: Nathan LaFortune (Kristi) of Fortson, GA, Gabriel LaFortune (Dionne) of Richmond Hill, GA,, Amber LaFortune (Chris) of Phenix City, AL, Steven Register (Linh) of Ellicott City, MD and Tiffany Register of Houston, TX.
