Robert E. "Bob" Watson, 79 of Columbus, Ga. died Saturday October 18, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Hagen officiating. Interment will be held in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Columbus Lions Club.
Mr. Watson was born December 17, 1934 in Darks Mill, Columbia, Tn. son of the late Fred James and Louise White Watson. He Graduated in 1957 from the University of Tennessee, received his CPA in 1960 and received his Masters in 1973 from Georgia State University where he also received Academic Excellence. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and was Treasurer from 1969 to 1971, and assistant Boy Scout leader at the Lutheran Church of Redeemer from 1979 to 1983.
Mr. Watson worked and retired as a Controller for Johnston Industries from 1966 to 1999 and was a member of the Do Nothing Club and was a 31 year member of the Columbus Lions Club. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow and served as Investment Committee Chair, Treasurer and the Lions Club Broom Sales Chairman.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years Barbara Treece Watson; daughter, Ann Marie McCown and husband Joseph Neely McCown; son, James Robert Watson and wife Debbi Wilson Watson; four grandchildren, Kristin Marie McCown, Stephanie McCown Hogan and her husband Roger Hogan, Katlyn Watson and Kyle Watson.
