Robert Martin Smith

Robert Martin Smith was born May 6th, 1934 in Columbus, GA to Charlie and Ida Crowley Smith.
A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, Ga 31907. A visitation will immediately follow the service. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Billy and Sammy Smith.
A four sport letterman at Jordan High School, Robert received his bachelor's degree from Troy University. At Troy, he was a member of the gymnastics team and lettered in track. He earned his master's degree from Columbus State University. In 2012, Robert was inducted into the Jordan High School Hall of Fame. After 30 years, he retired from the Fort Benning school system to spend time being the best papa to his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Miles, who he married on October 19th,1956; daughters, Lisa (Keith) Carlisle, Milton, Beth Turner, Marietta, Sally (Chuck) McDaniel, Columbus; Grandchildren, Tyler (Anna) Carlisle, Claire (Scott) Young, Witt Carlisle, Clayton Turner, Maggie and Chip McDaniel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Rd., Columbus, Ga 31909, or Valley Rescue Mission, 7553 N. Veterans Pkwy., Columbus, Ga 31909.
