LTC (Ret.) Robert J. McKenna, 79, of Columbus, GA died Thursday, January 7, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2 PM Monday, January 11, 2010 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Frank Patterson officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Benning Main Post Cemetery. A Rosary will be said 6 PM Sunday, January 10, 2010 with visitation to follow at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
LTC (Ret.) McKenna was born May 11, 1930 in Bronx, NY son of the late James and Dorothy McKenna. He served in the U.S. Army for 26 years serving in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, CPT Patrick M. McKenna.
Survivors include his wife, Maureen McKenna of Columbus, GA, sons, James McKenna (Normandy) of Columbus, GA, Daniel McKenna of Columbus, GA, Robert McKenna (Tana) of Columbus, GA and Thomas McKenna (Ashley) of Columbus, GA, daughter, Ret. Col. Susan Rocha (Lt. Col. Ret. Bobby) of Huntsville, AL, brother, James J. McKenna (Cathleen) of New Jersey, grandchildren, Craig, Christopher and Amanda McKenna, Patrick, Kiley, Robert and Taylor McKenna, and Ian, Margaret and Katherine McKenna and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the CPT. Patrick M. McKenna Scholarship of The Citadel in Charleston, SC or St. Jude Childrens Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105.
