Robert Lamar Knox, Sr. 81 of Columbus died Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Columbus Hospice House.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, August 01, 2014 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Udell Addison officiating. A private interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home.
Mr. Knox was born April 18, 1933 in Columbus, Ga. son of the late Andrew Jackson Knox, Sr. and Naomi Feagin Knox. Mr. Knox was a U.S. Navy Veteran stationed in Lyautey, French Morocco during the Korean Conflict and retired as a Major after 27 years with the Columbus Police Department. After his retirement, Mr. Knox was the Director of Security for the Housing Authority in Columbus and Lead Court Security Officer for the Federal Court System in Columbus.
Mr. Knox was a member of the Rosehill Masonic Lodge 484, Fraternal Order Of Police, and the Fellowship Baptist Church in Smiths Station, Al. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and a grandchild.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years Vivian Williams Knox; daughter; Karen Ellene Davis (Wendell) of Carrollton, Ga., sons; Robert L. Knox Jr. (Vickie) of Jacksonville, Fl., James Michael Knox of Dallas, Ga., sister; Lorene Carlisle of Columbus, Ga., nieces; Susan Dobbs (Steve) and Kathy Christensen (Larry) two grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
