Robert Harrison Wilson, 79, of Columbus, GA, died Friday, June 1, 2018 at his residence.
Funeral Services with Full Military Honors and Masonic Rights will be held 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907. Interment will be held at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Wilson was born December 19, 1938 in Great Falls, S.C., son of the late William Harry and Bessie Wilson. Being a military man at heart, he joined the Navy Reserve while in High School. After completing his term in the Navy, he joined the US Army. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he retired as Master Sergeant serving at Infantry Center and School as Senior Logistics Instructor for the 10th CO, 1st BN, TSB, at Ft. Benning, GA. He served in the United States Army for 20 years (1963 - 1983). Following his Military retirement he became Housing Manager for the Civil Service.
Mr. Wilson was a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason who enjoyed boating, fishing, playing cards and being a father and grandfather. He also loved his pets as part of the family. He would frequently share stories of the many good memories he had growing up with his two brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Anna H. Wilson of Columbus, GA; daughter, Wendy Irvin (Shane) of Fortson, GA; daughter, Laura (Brian) Smith of Hickory, NC; daughter, Milly Rector of Rutherfordton, NC; brother, Ray (Phyllis) Wilson of Shelby, NC; brother, James "Jimmy" (Patsy) Wilson of Rutherfordton, NC; grandsons, Donovan and Harrison of Columbus, GA; grandsons Brad, Jeffrey; granddaughters Tracy, Natalie, Sierra, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his son, William "Billy" Ellis Wilson.
