Robert "Robbie" Lee Grimes

Robert "Robbie" Grimes, 100, died at Columbus Hospice on January 9, 2015.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 11, 2015 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907 with Chaplain Roland Wayne Hollaway, M. Div. officiating. Interment will be held privately at Riverdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
Robbie was born on September 30, 1914 in Blakely, Georgia, one of eleven children born to Nolia Olivia Evans and Benjamin Vincent Lee. She was fifth cousin, third generation to Confederate General Robert E. Lee, her namesake. Her loving husband, Paul Stanley Grimes, former City Engineer of Columbus, preceded her in death. Her parents, siblings, and one grandson, Paul Stanley Grimes, III, also preceded her in death.
Robbie retired after 28 years as an operating room nurse at the Medical Center and was employed part-time with Doctor's Hospital until 1995 at the age of 82. She was a charter member of Wynnbrook Baptist Church, sang in the choir, played hand bells, and served as past president of the Lillian Harris Sunday School Class. She was also a past president of ABWA and a member of AORN. She loved dancing, needlework, traveling, and was a devoted Atlanta Braves fan. She has credited her happy life and longevity to: "I don't make life difficult." Robbie will be long remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a dear friend to many.
She is survived by her only son, Paul Stanley Grimes, Jr. and his wife, Jane Hammond Grimes of Columbus, GA; grandson, Robert Lee Grimes and his wife, Deirdre Bush Grimes of Franklin, TN; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Elizabeth Grimes and Nicole Lea Grimes of Franklin, TN, and Ashton Paul Grimes and his mother, Heather Grimes Taylor of Columbus, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
