Robert Alan “Bobby” Furman of Columbus passed away on Tuesday January 21, 2025. He was 75 years old. A private Celebration of Life will be held with family at a later date according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

Bobby was born on December 28, 1949, in Columbus, GA, to the late Hyman A. Furman and Ruth Cohen Furman. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Michael Furman, and sister, Irene Furman Rice.

A proud graduate of Columbus High School’s Class of 1967, Bobby served his country with honor in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. His dedication and courage earned him several distinctions, including the Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. After his honorable service, Bobby pursued higher education at Columbus College, where he earned a degree in Chemistry, launching a successful career as a chemist in the research and development field.

Bobby was cherished for his quick wit, infectious humor, and genuine kindness. He was generous, humble, and had a natural ability to connect with everyone he met, always greeting others with a smile. Growing up in the Lindsay Creek neighborhood, Bobby was an active participant in community sports, playing Little League Baseball with the “A & B League Rebels,” Pop Warner Football with the “Rigdon Road Rockets,” and performing in the high school marching band as a baritone player.During his tenure at Vulcan Materials Company (formerly Callaway Chemical Co.), Bobby’s exceptional work ethic and innovative mind stood out. His contributions to the industry earned him recognition and several patents for advancements in defoamers used in industrial chemicals. Bobby was a man of many passions. He enjoyed exercising and adventurous pursuits such as skydiving, scuba diving, fast cars, and riding his motorcycle. He was also an avid reader, a lover of documentaries, and a lifelong learner who never stopped seeking knowledge. Above all, Bobby was devoted to being a loving father and a loyal friend, roles he embraced with his whole heart.

Bobby’s legacy of kindness, humor, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him.Bobby is survived by his loving daughter, Brock Taylor-Furman (Wes) of Midland City, AL; his niece, Meredith Rice Doyle and Shelly Furman Morris (Rex);and his nephew: David Rice (Rachel).His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that a donation be made toone of the following charitable organizations in Robert A.
