Robert Earl Dorriety, a cherished soul known affectionately as Robert to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully of natural causes on March 10, 2025, in Columbus, GA. Born on August 7, 1940, in Geneva, AL, Robert's journey through life was marked by devotion, bravery, and fervor. He was a beacon of love and strength, leaving behind a legacy that will be fondly remembered and celebrated by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service will be held Saturday March 15, 2025 at 1:00 PM EST in the chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends and our prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd, Columbus, GA 31907.

The son of the late James Allen Dorriety and Varah Dorriety, Robert was a pillar of support to his family from a young age. After graduating from Jordan Vocational High School in 1958, he took on various jobs, always working diligently to help his parents with their expenses. His sense of duty and care for others was evident in every endeavor he undertook.

In 1966, Robert found his calling when he joined the Columbus Fire Department. His 29 and a half years of service were marked by unwavering commitment and heroism, and he retired as a Sergeant in 1995. His colleagues remember him as a man of great courage, who approached every challenge with determination and a calm demeanor. Robert's passion for his work was second only to the love he had for his family.

Robert's heart belonged to his beloved wife, Shirley Parks Dorriety. Together, they built a life filled with joy and companionship. He was a loving brother, a guiding father, grandfather, a playful uncle, and a steadfast friend. His presence was a source of comfort and happiness to those around him, and his absence will be deeply felt.

A man of diverse interests, Robert had a profound appreciation for old country music. The tunes of George Jones, Hank Williams, and Merle Haggard resonated with him, often filling his home with their classic melodies. His love for the University of Alabama's football team, the Crimson Tide, was unwavering. From the days of Bear Bryant to the era of Nick Saban, Robert's spirited "Roll Tide" could be heard during every game, embodying his passionate nature.

As we bid farewell to Robert Earl Dorriety, we do so with gratitude for the memories shared, the lessons learned, and the love given. His story does not end with his passing but continues in the lives of those he inspired. We honor his spirit, his contributions, and the indelible mark he has left on our hearts.

Robert's life will be celebrated in a manner that he would have wanted—surrounded by family, friends, and the music he adored. His legacy will live on, not only in our memories but also in the essence of the community he served so selflessly. We take solace in knowing that Robert is now at peace, and his journey continues in a place where the music never fades, and the "Roll Tide" echoes on forever.

In addition to his Parents, Robert is preceded in death his brother James Earnest Dorriety; sister, Sue Martha Lites, and most recently his oldest Son Robert Steven Dorriety.

Robert is survived by his wife, Shirley Parks Dorriety of Columbus; youngest son, Brian Scott Dorriety (Brittaney) of Valley, AL; grandson, Blayke Dorriety (Kaylee) of Valdosta, GA; granddaughter, Devyn Dorriety of Atlanta, GA, and two great granddaughters.
