Doug was born in Talbotton, GA in his grandparents' home, a place that was always dear to his heart, on December 11, 1931 to Robert Douglas Duncan and Dorothy Weston Duncan. He grew up in Fitzgerald, GA and received his early education in the Fitzgerald public schools and went on to graduate from Fitzgerald High School where he was running back for the Purple Hurricane football team that went on to win the 1948 state championship. Jane cheered Doug on that victorious championship night, and has faithfully remained his number one cheerleader the rest of his life. He entered Auburn University and graduated from Auburn with a BS from the architectural school in Building Construction. While at Auburn, on a starry night, he got down on one knee on the steps of Samford Hall and asked for Jane Williams' hand in marriage. They were married on June 11, 1954 and soon after moved to Ft. Knox where Doug served in the United States Armored Division. Doug and Jane moved to Columbus, GA and he went to work for the Kendrick Concrete Company. After retiring from Kendrick Concrete Company, he started Duncan Marble in 1977 and retired in 2005.

After retirement, Doug spent much of his free time working on his property in Ellerslie, GA where Doug and Jane enjoyed gardening and keeping their country place beautiful. He enjoyed wood working, where he made crosses, benches and many other cherished items for family members.
Doug was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and lived out his faith daily, serving at St. Luke Food Pantry. Doug was a member of the Jesus Is Lord fellowship Class. One of Doug's greatest joys was hosting Bible studies in his home where friends and family were welcome to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. Doug is preceded in death by his parents.

Doug and Jane have been blessed with four children. Laura Wagner (Lewis), Leesa Mobley (Ray), Doug Duncan, III (Sherry), Clay Duncan (Angele). Their children gave them eleven precious grandchildren. Lewis, Cale, Lane, Wes, Taylor, Garrett, Laura Lea, Teil, Lauren, Clayton and Mitchell, whom they both love dearly. They also have eleven great grandchildren.
