Robert Newton Carter, Sr., 87, of Phenix City, AL, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2022.
A celebration of life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 9, 2022 in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Ed Rollins officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Robert was born March 30, 1935 in Athens, GA to the late T.Frank Carter and Birdie Susie Shed Carter. Bob served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953-1956. Following his service, he attended Young Harris College receiving his associate’s degree, the University of Georgia receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degree, and the University of Florida receiving his doctorate degree.
Bob taught many classes in the area of marketing, management, and economics in his work at the University of Georgia, Southwest Texas State University, and Columbus State University where he retired after many years of service. He continued his love of the classroom by teaching part-time at Troy University. Bob was a lifelong learner and planner, who loved strategy and helping others problem solve in the classroom and through his numerous consulting businesses.
Bob met his future wife, Mona, in San Marco, Texas. They celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary in August 2021.They shared a love for traveling and being near the water. They spent many happy years together living on Lake Oliver and visiting their favorite spot in Panama City Beach with numerous friends and family members. They also enjoyed frequent travels to the Smokey Mountains. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona Lee Bannert Carter, son, Robert Newton Carter, Jr., and brothers, Ralph, JC, and David Carter.
Survivors include his loving son, Robert Seth Hutchinson and his wife, Mary Dorian Lee Hutchinson; and grandson, Robert Braden Hutchinson all of Cumming, GA.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Jodi Capan for her loving friendship and care. They would also like to thank Bob’s many friends near and far, particularly ones in the Columbus, Smith’s Station, and Phenix City area that have provided such wonderful help and support.
