Robert Raymond Barksdale

Robert Raymond Barksdale, 86, of Columbus died Thursday, June 9, 2011 at his home.
A memorial service will be held 3 P.M., Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Eastern Heights Baptist Church with Rev. LaBron Matthews officiating. The family will receive friends following the service according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, GA.
Mr. Barksdale was born June 15, 1924 in Macon, GA son of the late William Barksdale and Gertrude Williams Sawyer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during WWII. He was the owner/operator of Southern Mchine & Welding, Inc. He was a past recipient Engineer of the Year, Power Squadron, Past Commander Civil Air Patrol, Jaycees, Exchange Club, Columbus Art Guild, Phenix City Arts Council, Twin City Twirlers, Columbus Lions Club and Eastern Heights Baptist Church.
He loved to fly and loved to sail.
Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, William Bruce Barksdale and sister, Ann Cheek.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Patricia Barksdale of Columbus, GA; daughters, Penelope Barksdale of Phenix City, AL; Abigail Boeckh and husband Shawn of Columbus, GA and Laura Lea Martin and husband James D. Martin, Jr. of Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Skylar and Tristan Boeckh, Haley Grace Barksdale and James D. Martin, III and niece, Diane Freeman of Ft. Valley, AL.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to Eastern Heights Baptist Church, 1342 17th St. Columbus, GA 31904.
