Robert James Armstrong, 79 of Midland, Ga died January 9, 2020 at NE Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am, Friday, January 17th in the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Judy Hay officiating. Visitation will follow the services at the funeral home, 3874 Gentian Blvd., Columbus, Ga. 31907.
Bob was born January 1, 1941 in Thurnscoe, Yorkshire, United Kingdom, son of the late Harry Armstrong and Isabella McCartney Armstrong. Bob was a chemist who retired from the printing industry. Bob played the trombone with the Bob Barr Community Band, Cavaliers Orchestra Big Band and volunteered at the Open Door Community House giving music lessons for the Youth in Unison music program.
Bob was preceded in death by his son Iain, and his survivors include his wife of 49 years, Diana Hunter Armstrong of Midland, Ga., daughter Victoria Wood (Jean-Yves) of Midland, Ga., son Jamie Armstrong (Michelle) of Phenix City, Al., grandchildren Gwendolyn and Scarlett Wood of Midland, GA., and many extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Open Door Community House 2405 2nd. Avenue Columbus, Ga. 31901 or at ODCH.org (a notation should be made directing the contribution to Youth in Unison or music).
