Mrs. Robbie Britt Ward Thomas, 84, Columbus, GA, died Sunday, March 30, 2014.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, April 4, 2014 at St. Luke United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Beckum officiating. There will be a private family interment at Riverdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Church according to McMullen Funeral Home, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Mrs. Thomas was born September 21, 1929 in Eufaula, AL, daughter of the late Robert Edward Ward, Sr. and Annie Majors Ward. Other than her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Bob Ward and her sisters, Evelyn Blackburn and Mildred Carpenter. Mrs. Thomas was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church for over 55 years and was active in the Fellowship Sunday School Class as well as one of the founding members of the United Methodist Women's Circle No. 9. She graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Medical Technology and as an outstanding student spent one year at Emory University Hospital where she received her full certification. Mrs. Thomas became a member of the teaching faculty of the Family Practice Residency at the Medical Center during her career which spanned for over twenty years.
Survivors include her husband, Summie Major Thomas, Jr. of Columbus, GA; sons; Sim Thomas of Columbus, GA and Bob Thomas (Juanita) of Ellerslie, GA; daughter, Cynthia Lingo (Rick) of Hamilton, GA; sisters, Anne Michie of Cary, NC, Sarah Schultz of Little Rock, AK, Helen Saliba of Memphis, TN; sister-in-law; Gail Ward of St. Augustine, FL; grandchildren, Hannah Thomas, Nancy Thomas, Elizabeth Lingo, Drew Lingo, Trey Lingo, Steve Melton (Holly), Lynnann Gates, Dalton Folds; great grandchildren, Kimmi Peterson, Devon Peterson and Jamin Gates and twenty four nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 1104 2nd Ave. Columbus, GA 31901.
