Richard L. Stallings
September 10, 1927 — July 30, 2013
Richard "Dick" L. Stallings of 5623 Canterbury Drive, Columbus, passed July 30th, 2013 at the Columbus Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 2, 2013 at Epworth United Methodist Church, Columbus, GA, with the Rev. Scott Hagan officiating. Visitation will follow the service at the church according to McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.
Richard was born September 10th, 1927 in Baltimore, MD son of Harry and Grace Stallings. He attended public schools there, and served in the Marine Corps from 1945-1946. After an Honorable Discharge, he attended and subsequently graduated from the University of Baltimore Law School in 1953, and was admitted to the Maryland State Bar that same year.
After having worked as a mortgage loan supervisor and as a regional manager for Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company, he moved to Columbus, GA in 1964.
Active as a real estate appraiser since August 1950, Richard held the MAI and SRA designations of the Appraisal Institute. He served on the national faculties, and taught appraisal courses and seminars for the Society of Real Estate Appraisers and the Appraisal Institute at locations nationwide for over 25 years. He authored both appraisal courses and seminar materials for the Appraisal Institute and Society of Real Estate Appraisers and the University of Georgia Center for Government Affairs.
Richard was appointed by Gov. Joe Frank Harris to serve on the first Georgia Real Estate Appraisers Board and was selected the first Chairman of that board. He as re-appointed by Gov. Zell Miller, serving a total of seven years.
Richard, along with partners Harry Boyce and James Pearce, owned and operated Valuation Services, a residential/commercial appraisal company. He then served as a Commercial Real Estate Analyst at Columbus Bank and Trust Company from March 2000 through January 2010.
He married Virginia L. Medinger on September 8th 1956. He is survived by Virginia, three children- Richard Nace, Paul Stallings, Amy Bremser, and six grandchildren- Jennifer (Reed Fleming), Bree Bremser, Emily and Austin Stallings-Laura (Jedidiah Hopper) and Ryan Nace.
