Richard William Reilly, born September 9, 1937 and a resident of Midland, GA for the last seven years, left this world on March 6th, 2020. If you asked where he was from, he would likely tell you Western Maryland, as he grew up in Westernport, MD and lived the majority of his adult life in Rawlings, MD.
Most of his friends, and even strangers, knew Richard as a man who was always good-natured, funny, patient, and never had a bad word towards others. His family knew him as a strong but fair disciplinarian, a husband who missed his wife, Trudy, so much when she went on trips to visit her family in Germany that he became somewhat of a bear and his kids counted the days until she'd come home. He was a man who loved Trudy more than anything in this world and a father who loved his children, lived to provide for them and expected much from them. He often told his kids that he didn't care if they didn't like him as long as they grew up to be honest, productive, responsible adults who gave back to our great nation. He and Mom did a great job at accomplishing that and Dad left this world loved immensely by all five.
At this time, no formal memorial service is scheduled. For those who know him, you know he was never much for fanfare. He often said that when he died, he would be happy just to be put in a cardboard box and cremated. So, to honor his request, that is how his body left this world. His wishes were to be cremated and interred, together, with Trudy, when she passes, at the Veteran's Cemetery in Rocky Gap State Park, MD. Besides it being beautiful and a place that held many great family memories, it also brings his body back to the area he calls home. A memorial service will be held for both Richard and Trudy when the time comes for God to call Mom home to be with Dad. For now, Richard left this world knowing she is being well cared for and surrounded by the love of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He leaves behind Gertraud (Trudy), the love of his life and beautiful, kind wife of almost 61 years; his children, Micheal Bruce Reilly, his wife Marcie; Richard Craig Reilly, his wife Crystal; Linda Reilly Blythe, her husband Robert, Barbara Ann Reilly, Karen Marie Metcalf, her husband Jim; 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind extended family, dear friends, coworkers from his time at Westvaco, and many others. Dad, we love you and we will take good care of Mom until she comes to join you! You'll always be close to our hearts.
