Richard Charles Maehr, Jr., 77, of Columbus, GA died February 6, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital. A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on Armour Rd.

Richard was born October 2, 1943 in Somerville, NJ to the late Richard Charles Maehr, Sr. and Audrey Ezell Kohler Maehr.

Richard served 20 years in the Army and served one tour in Vietnam.  During his military career he was stationed at Ft Dix in NJ, Ft. Jackson in SC, and did a 3-year tour of England.  In 1981, he retired from the Army at Ft. Benning in GA.  He had several specialty degrees in his military career and received a degree from Columbus Tech in administration.  After retiring, he was a photographer for church directories and later open his own 1-hour photo store on Ft Benning.  Since 1974, he was member of Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and volunteered as an elder.  Richard loved photography, trains, cowboy boots, and his suspenders.   He could spend hours watching home improvements television.

Survivors include his wife, Loretta J. Maehr; son, William Maehr (Jessica) of Columbus, GA; daughter, Wendy Maehr Barefoot (Keith) of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Lyn Jannuska (Ted) of Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, Jean Mullen (Rick) of Middletown, DE, Pamela Cyphers (Robert) of Tunkhannock, PA; brother, Ronald Maehr (Bonnie) of Bristol, NH; grandchildren, Chelsea Maehr, Cassidy Maehr, Caitlyn Maehr, Chaisen Maehr, and Cameron Maehr all of Columbus, GA.
