Richard Braddock Hill, Sr. of Columbus, GA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 18, 2024.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, January 29 at 2:00 p.m. at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Boulevard Columbus, GA 31907. Visitation will be held after the services at the funeral home.
Richard was born August 9,1943, in Letohatchee, Alabama, the son of the late Harry Hill, Sr. and Bessie Hooks Hill. He attended Lowndes High School in Fort Deposit, Alabama. After high school, Richard attended Troy State University for 2 years and later graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree from the School of Engineering. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.
After graduation from Auburn University, Richard began working for Georgia Power in Americus, Georgia, where he served the company for 32 years before retiring. He was a member of both the Jaycees and Rotary Club in Columbus, Georgia. Richard was an active member at Edgewood Church of Christ, serving as a deacon for many years.
Richard met the love of his life, Grace Moorer, in first grade. They wed in 1966 and were happily married for 57 years.
Richard was a natural athlete and fierce competitor. He enjoyed coaching youth football and little league baseball. He made an impact on many young lives and enjoyed retelling stories of playoffs and championship games. Richard was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his friends at Bull Creek golf course.
Richard was a dedicated husband, loving father, and devoted “Poppop”. He enjoyed spending time with his family, working in his garden, reading his Bible, hunting and fishing in Fort Deposit, and living a simple life on Lake Harding.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers “Bud” Harry Hill, Jr. and “Bob” Robert E. Hill, Sr.
He leaves behind his wife Grace Moorer Hill; two children: Brad Hill (Cynthia) of Phenix City, AL, Susan Hill Edmondson (Darby) of Hahira, GA and four grandchildren; Richard Hill III, Tillman Edmondson, Sara Hill and Grace Edmondson.
