Richard Hiram Duffey

Richard Hiram Duffey, 87, of Phenix City, AL passed peacefully Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at Piedmont Columbus Regional Midtown, while holding his daughters’ hands. A Graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, July 22, 2022 at Hemphill Memorial Presbyterian Church, 633 Hemphill Rd. Stockbridge, GA, 30281 with Reverend Tim Jones officiating.

Richard was born September 18, 1934 in Porterdale, GA to the late Robert Archie Duffey and Mabel Claire Adams Duffey. He was a member of Britt David Baptist Church for over 50 years and served as a Deacon. He served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Los Angeles CA 135. He eloped with the love of his life, Vera Nadine “Dee” Bowery, on Dec 30, 1958 in Gate City, VA. He loved his family and was devoted to his four grandchildren who called him “G-Daddy”. His favorite activities were attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and extended family gatherings.

Other than his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Robert Duffey and sister, Betty Ruth Moseley.

Survivors include his daughters, Darla Duffey Lowe (Duncan) of Thompson’s Station, TN, and Rhonda Duffey Edwards (David) of Columbus, GA; sister-in-law, Yolanda Bowery Townsend (Bruce) of Kingsport, TN; grandchildren, Andrew Duncan Lowe, Jr., Richard Lane Edwards, Abigail Claire Lowe, Samuel Duffey Lowe; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best bud, Robert “Reb” Edwards.
