Rex Enfinger, 85, of Columbus, GA died Friday, December 29, 2023 at Orchard View. Visitation will be at McMullen Funeral Home, Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 5-7:00 PM. Funeral services with Firefighter Honors will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Glenn Anthony Baptist Church, 1109 39th Street Columbus, GA 31904, with Pastor Jared Owens officiating. A private interment will be held following the service at Parkhill Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Rex was born February 18, 1938 in Columbus, GA son of late Robert C. Enfinger and Annabelle Smith Enfinger.
Rex retired after 34 years with Columbus Fire Department rising to the rank of Lieutenant. In addition to being a firefighter, he worked with Sears Roebuck for over 30 years. Rex served the office of deacon at Glenn Anthony Baptist Church until he was no longer able because of health issues. Rex was a proud graduate of Jordan Vocational High School where he ran track and cross country. Rex held the Georgia High School Mile Record for many years which earned him as recipient into the Jordan High School Hall of Fame. Rex served as the president of Northern Little League during the transition from the Airport Fields to the current Psalmond Road Park.
Other than his parents, Rex is preceded in death by his son, Robert Enfinger; daughter, Debra Enfinger; granddaughter, Annabelle Enfinger; great great grandson, Elijah Delrio; brothers, Ray, Jack, Paul, Robert, Ted, and Ned Enfinger.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Gloria Enfinger of Columbus, GA; children, Carol Dutton of Smiths Station, AL, Shirley Catron (Craig) of Stone Mountain, GA, Chuck Enfinger of Phenix City, AL, Daniel Enfinger (Bridget) of Clarkesville, GA, Darrell Enfinger (Tisa) of Columbus, GA, Donna McCoy (Ronnie) of Smith Station, AL; grandchildren, Steven Enfinger of Phenix City, AL, Daniel Bonniot of Smiths Station, AL, Jeffrey Bonniot of Smiths Station, AL, Zack Enfinger of Phenix City, AL, Victoria Enfinger of Columbus, GA, Chris McCoy of Columbus, GA, Cody McCoy of Columbus, GA; 13 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; brother David Enfinger of Columbus, GA and sisters Jane Weider of Columbus, GA and Suzanne Williams of Memphis, TN.
