Retired Sfc William Haywood Hutson

June 23, 1923 — September 6, 2021

Retired SFC William Haywood Hutson, 98, of Columbus, GA died Monday, September 6, 2021 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Parkhill Cemetery according to McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA 31907.

William was born June 23, 1923 in Coal Creek, TN to the late William Taylor Hutson and Rani Jane Lienart Hutson. He retired from the U.S. Army as a SFC.  He served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.  He was a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient. He later retired from the State of Georgia as the Food Service Director for West Central Hospital. He loved God, his family and his country.  He would do anything for anyone and did not meet a stranger. If you ever had the privilege to meet him, you sure are a better person for that.  He prayed for his family and friends daily. He was a Baptist by faith, loved watching the Atlanta Braves, Auburn Football, enjoyed playing Senior League softball and loved spending time with his family. Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife of 56 years, Catherine Hutson, his son, William Garth Hutson and his sisters Mary Ruth Miller and Helen Eubanks.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Margaret “Kay” Favors Hutson of Columbus, GA, children; Debbie Steele (Michael) of Fortson, GA Step Children; Jimmy Favors (Stephanie) of Smiths Station, AL, Kelli Favors of Columbus, GA, brothers; Robert “Bob” Hutson of Portland, TN, Ricky Hutson (Myona) of Lake City, TN, grandchildren; Michael William Steele of Phenix City, AL, Ashley Hawthorne (Chas) of Hamilton, GA Step Grandchildren; Jacey Carney, Cash Carney, Cooper Favors, Corbin Favors, great-grandchildren, William Hunter Hawthorne, Matthew William Steele and a devoted niece, Tina Jackson of Columbus, GA.

Flowers will be accepted but those so desiring, may make contribution to House of Heroes Chattahoochee Valley at 1225 Webster Ave, Columbus, GA 31901.
