(Ret) CSM Lee Solis Rodriguez, 86, of Midland, GA died Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Legacy Reserve.

A Cryptside service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Parkhill Cemetery in the Chapel of Pines. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Friday, April 2, 2021 at McMullen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA. In keeping with the efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 facemasks and social distancing will be required during the cryptside service and visitation.

Lee was born September 7, 1934 in Sinton, TX to the late Ramon & Maria Rodriguez. Lee grew up in Sinton, but through his military service spent the majority of his life in Columbus after being stationed at Ft. Benning, Georgia. Though much of his life was spent in Georgia, Lee never lost his love for Texas (which was evidenced by his love of cowboy boots and cowboy hats of which he could always be found wearing). Lee frequently enjoyed traveling back to visit family and friends, with Mickie at his side as they made the long drive.

CSM Rodriguez retired from the Army as a Command Sergeant Major after 30 years of service, including two tours in Vietnam.  Lee was wounded during both tours and received two Purple Hearts in recognition of his service.

Lee was a solider to the core – continuing his exercise regimen of running, push-ups and pull-ups until he was well into his 80s. Lee’s passion for life was evident to all who met him, he was well-known for his jokes, love of pranks, and uncanny ability to make those around him laugh.  His quick wit will be remembered for generations to come.

In addition to his love of exercise and being active, Lee was a devoted supporter of the VFW.  Most weekends, Lee and Mickie could be found at the VFW dancing the night away, surrounded by their many friends.

Lee will be lovingly remembered by those who knew him as a brave and heroic solider, forever dressed in his crisply ironed shirts and shiny cowboy boots, always smiling and making those around him laugh. But, most of all, Lee will be remembered as the loving family man he was to those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Other than his parents he is preceded in death by his sons, Randall R. Courtney, Dyrul Courtney sisters, Eloisa Garcia, Lucia Garcia, brothers, Reynaldo Rodriguez, and Charlie Rodriguez .

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Cassie (Mickie) Rodriguez, daughters, Teresa (Terry) Miller, Sabrina (Mark) Guth, sons, Lee (Chip) Solis Rodriguez, Jr., Timothy Ramon Rodriguez, Sr., Scott Morrell Rodriguez, Sr., sister, Virginia Crain San Antonio, TX, brothers, Manuel Rodriguez of Olathe, KS, Ramon Rodriguez, Jr., of  Pharr, TX, Jose Alberto Rodriguez of Sinton, TX, 18 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank everyone at Legacy and Columbus Hospice House for their kindness and the wonderful care they gave Mr. Rodriguez.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Columbus Hospice House at 7020 Moon Rd, Columbus, GA 31909 or the VFW at 1824 Victory Dr, Columbus, GA 31901
